Reform planning to deliver more homes

The Federation of Small Builders – Reports

The need for more SME house builders to deliver better quality and diverse homes can only be delivered if the planning system is reformed, says the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) in response to comments made by the Secretary of State Michael Gove MP on housing at the Margaret Thatcher Conference on Growth.

Brian Berry Chief Executive at the FMB said “Small, local builders deliver high quality homes day in day out. The Government needs to act to get small house builders unstuck from the complex planning system and back to delivering high quality, diverse homes, using skilled local workers. Michael Gove is adopting the right approach, but unfortunately substantial planning barriers stop the nation’s small house builders from delivering homes for their communities. It’s clear that better engagement with SMEs from local planning authorities would help deliver Government ambitions.”
